All it does is give any sort of reviewing a bad name. And writing. And publishing. It reduces the art and craft of writing and selling books to playground fisticuffs. Of course, people will always give favourable reviews of their friends' books: it's human nature. But to big up your own writing by calling it genius and rubbishing those you perceive are your rivals is just pathetic.
Oh for heavens sake. It is really nuts - this man was a million-seller anyway - why did he need to big himself up any more? It just devalues, as you say,any online review.
